Why In October 1962 the why did US and the Soviet Union co me close to war?

The Cuban missle crisis. The Soviest began moving Intercontinential Ballastic Missiles(ICBMs) into Cuba. These ICBM's could hit major cities in US within 30 minutes. When USAF planes detected these missiles, President Kennedy ordered an embargo around the island and prepared to stop any Russian ship. AIr Force SAC bases were placed on DEFCON 1---war was imminent. Any confrontation with a Russian ship could have resulted in sinking of the ship and all-out war.

What incident in the Gulf of Tonkin caused a crisis for president lyndon B?

A North Vietnamese ship fired on an American ship.

What major 1962 event was exposed by remotely sensed imagery from satellites and U-2 airplanes?

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, these methods were used to detect and prove that the Soviets had missiles in Cuba which were pointed at the US, as well as an additional shipment on the way. Once the cat was out of the bag, so to speak, these same methods were used to capture the ship turning around and heading back to the USSR - nuclear war averted. The Cuban Missile Crisis itself was not exposed by these methods, however the captured images exposed the truth behind the questionable Soviet activity in Cuba and in the Pacific.

How did the US cause a crisis in Cuba?

It depends which Cuban crisis you are talking about. The United States has invaded Cuba twice. The first time was from sinking a military ship. Maybe you have heard of the Rough Riders? They were a volunteer group that was lead by Teddy Roosevelt (before he was president) that was part of the first invasion. The other invasion was during the Cold War. The Invasion was called the Bay of Pigs. Cuba was allied with Russia and threatening the United States with Nuclear weapons.
