Adams was considered an intellectual where as Washington was considered a common sense man. Washington was General of the Army where as Adams did not serve. Many other differences. In addition, George Washington was our First President, and John Adams was the Second President. If you mean John Quincy Adams, he was the Sixth President.
Although they both supported independence, John and Samuel Adam's were very different, such as after the war, John was a Federalist who supported the Constitution and a strong central government. Sam was anti-Federalist and supported strong state governments.
