Terriers are typically smaller than the gun Dog Breeds and were bred for an entirely different purpose then gun dogs. Terriers were developed to hunt and kill vermin and generally live longer and have a higher energy level. Gun dogs were developed to assist their masters in hunting by retrieving game once its been shot, also they are more aloof than terriers and generally do not live as long.
