timing for a 350 is 12 oclock on dot and set at number 1 cylinder tdc and disstibutor should be at number 1 plug wire and you should be able to start it right up with this
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 going clock wise and number. One should be at 5 oclock pointing at number one cyl.
Look on the distributor cap very carefully. It should be marked. If no go, bring #1 to 0 deg TDC and the rotor will be pointing at it.
looking down on cap it should be at 5 oclock.
the #1 piston at top dead center and crank gear dot at 12 oclock, should the cam be timed with the cam gear on after the exhaust valve is closed or after the intake valve is closed ? If the cam gear is at 6 oclock and the crank gear is at 12 oclock, this means that the #1 piston is at top dead center and the exhaust valve just closed, does that mean the engine is in time and i can put the distributor in with roator pointing at #1 plug on the cap ? When I timed it the first time,I had the cam gear at 12 oclock and the crank at 12 oclock and the roator pointing at #1 plug meaning the intake valve just closed and the piston at top dead center but I cant get it to crank up but just turn over. Which timing is the corect way ?
if you mean when installing a timing chain, the keyway or square notch should be at 12 oclock and the mark should be at 3 oclock
It should be between 5 and 6 oclock, If the Distributor is installed correctly. IN the front.
they should be pointing down in the water
The easiest way to find it is to set #1 piston at TDC and see where the rotor is pointing, it should be pointing to number 1 terminal on the distributor cap.
8:00 oclock
you should move the tank pointing to number 3 then press shoot
The crank gear should be in the 12: oclock position & the cam gear should be in the 6: oclock position facing each other this is top dead center on compression stroke.
Yes the rotor should be pointing to the #1 cylinder when you are installing the distributor.
