The universe is all that there is, and there fore eternal, as it is not possible for non-existence, but it is possible to have reality as ultimately "nothing," or a void, that makes up everything. This is what we call matter, or energy, and it is the conscious (in the fact that is has physical properties) that breaths the life force that gives everything the ability to exist. From infinity past, and infinity future this process has death, and rebirth, as we all are part of reality itself, with no beginning, or end, but only a process of regeneration of an eternal process.

What we know as the "Big Bang" in cosmology, is a reflection of this cycle (disregard the multiverse for now, as that matter is open for grasp), is only a reflection of this cycle. A singularity, or infinite point, is when we explore this eternal consciousness, although the physical reality begins, but the eternal void does not. To ask what came before existence, is to misunderstand exactly what is the process of rebirth, and death, what karma or action did a person do in the past life, what is their soul, and you will realize that eternally we have always existed, in the metaphoric sense, but within our finite life have we failed to realize that we are nothing but an illusion of our own deluded mindset of what is exactly is the process of rebirth, and death, that is revealed by our spirituality nature, or that of Brahma, that great self, which is the only self, that has no ego, or soul. This is the process of "the endless cycle of life death and rebirth."

What is the cycle of birth death and rebirth?

The cycle of rebirth is referred to as samsara like the constant ebb and flow of the oceanic tide. ^ the answer above is too vague. Samsara is the cycle of life, death, and rebirth/reincarnation, and it is a Hindu concept as well as a Buddhist concept. Hindus and Buddhists believe that the soul wears the physical body like an article of clothing, and that there is no such thing as death. When the physical body "dies," the spirit leaves and moves onto the next physical body, reborn, dies, is reborn, and so on. It is an endless cycle, and the only way to escape the cycle (mokhsha) is to achieve nirvana (according to Buddhist philosophy), which is the absence of suffering. To do so, one must purge oneself of desires, for desires are what spawn suffering, and when one achieves this, the cycle is broken.

Life your life positively and dont think about rebirth, is the only way to pop out of the cycle of rebirth. ------------- Eternallyephemeral: I don't think the above answer is answering the question, which is vague itself. If you're talking about the cycle of rebirth in Hinduism (and Buddhism), the escape is called samsara, and escaping the cycle, the body is shed by the soul for a final time.
