The first explorer to sail his ship around the world was Ferdinand Magellan. He set sail in 1519 with five ships, the San Antonio, Trinidad, Santiago, Victoria, and the Concepcion. Though Magellan was killed in 1521, one of his ships, the Victoria, made it back to Spain almost exactly three years after the expedition began.
