The Romans.
They thought they were disgusting people who didn't bathe everyday. They were thought to the Romans as Barbarians
At times during the Roman empire the Germanic tribes within the empire's borders or outside of them, attacked Roman legions or guardposts. Some became part of the Roman military as auxiliaries. Some were trained by the Romans and then used that training against Rome. Finally at the end of the empire the Germanic tribes were some of many barbarians that settled within the old Roman borders. Rome was in the end unable to defeat Germanic tribes in war.
Four germanic peoples invaded England: The Angles, Saxons and Jutes from northern Germany and the Frisians from northern Holland.
Angles (from which Angleland = England), Saxons (from present day Saxony in Germany) and Jutes (from present day Jutland Peninsula in Denmark).
The Germanic tribes that settled in Britain after the Romans departed were called the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. They were brought over to England as mercenaries by the Celtic petty-kings to help in their struggles between each other. The Gremanics, when they realised their opportunity, brought more of their peoples over from Germany and took over. Ftom them comes the later name England (Angle-land) and the term Anglo-Saxon. Today we still have continental names Saxony in Germany, and and Jutland (Jute Land) in Denmark (Dane-mark)..
The belief the Germanic rulers adopted from the Romans was Catholicism.

First of all it was not the Germans. Germany and the Germans did not exist back then. It was the Germanic peoples. Germanic is a linguistic group which includes German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and English. These Germanic peoples were the ancestors of the peoples who speak these modern languages. The Franks who lived around the mouth of the river Rhine were allowed to settle in Holland south of the river Rhine and in Belgium because they were allies of the Romans and supplied troops and cavalry to the Romans. The Visigoths asked the Romans to be allowed to settle in the lower Danube area of the Roman Empire because they wanted to escape the Huns who were conquering Eastern Europe. Emperor Valens granted this in 376. The Ostrogoths settled in Pannonia (eastern Austria and western Hungary) while the Romans lost control of this area to the Huns. After the collapse of the Hun Empire the Romans and the Ostrogoths became allies. Other smaller Germanic peoples were allowed to settle in smaller areas of the Roman Empire because they needed land and because they could become suppliers of soldiers for the Romans.
