Chromosphere
chromosphere and corona
I believe that the layer in which sun spots occur would be the chromosphere. The chromosphere is the second layer in the sun's atmosphere and is about 2,000km above the photosphere(the first layer).
The lowest layer of the sun"s atmosphere and the layer from which light is given off is the photosphere. It is also called the surface of the sun.Its temperature is about 6,000k.Above the photosphere is the chromosphere. Its layer extends upward about 2,000 km above the photosphere. by:Marina Tamang of I.S125.

The "optical" surface of the Sun (known as the photosphere) is known to have a temperature of approximately 6,000 K. Above it lies the solar corona, rising to a temperature of around 1,000,000-2,000,000 K

On a star, the chromosphere is the next layer above the photosphere.
the gases of the sun extend far beyond the photosphere, which may be considered the lowest level of the solar atmosphere. The region immediatly above the photosphere is called the chromosphere.

The mesosphere is located directly above the stratosphere. The mesosphere is known as the 'middle atmosphere' and is where millions of meteors burn up daily.
chromosphere.....is the thin layer above the photosphere
