Why do hospital gowns open in the back?

It serves a purpose. The back opening makes it more accecible for nurses to apply injections. Doctors can hear better the heart and lungs with the thin fabric without having to remove it. At least that was the information found. I also find them a little troublesome with that thing in the back. But for doctors working with patient as well as nurses this has the advantage. So the advantage is given to the doctors and nurses and not the patient.
