The modern city of Delhi, India, is called "Dilli" by the locals. Dilli refers to its historical name of Dhili. One of the legends states that King Dilu built the city in 50 BC and named it for himself. Another original spelling of the city is Dhillu. Other historical theories suggest that Anangpal, a Tomara ruler, built the city. Delhi contains remnants of other ancient cities, such as Tughluqabad, Jananpanah, and Feroz Shah Kotla during the 14th century AD.
