The ex-soldiers' reunions started on a very local basis, but soon became regional, and eventually national. There was masses of enthusiastic hand-shaking between old enemies - as dramatically shown on a clip of the 75th Anniversary of Gettysburg (1937) with elderly Confederates giving the Rebel Yell.
