There is probably no 'general' answer to the question. Each religion might answer this differently.

For example: Jehovah's Witnesses as Christians, (while they do follow the traditions within The Bible that apply for Christians), they follow NO man-made 'traditions'. In other words, 'tradition' has NO role in their religion.
