The stock exhaust setup on a 2002 Chevrolet truck with the 6.0ltr is two 2.5 pipes into one 2.25 pipe. Is this necessary or is there a problem going with 2.5 pipes all the way?

GM just wanted to save money that's it. The only problem is the muffler poping (noise) when it gets hot or cooling off. cheap muffler from factory
