At one point Iago suggests that he is seeking revenge for something someone once told him that he thought Othello had done, but that is a pretty lame motive, and Iago keeps changing his story as to why he hates the Moor. No, the themes of this play include love, jealousy, credibility, manipulation, race relations, and justice.
