Plate tectonics is the theory that the landmasses on the earth's surface move. The pieces of the earth's surface sit on liquid rock beneath it, which causes these plates to move away or toward each other.

∙ 15y agoPlate tectonics describes the scientific fact that land masses are moving on the surface of the earth. Some are shifting across the surface, such as North America moving west. Some are diving below, such as the Pacific plate colliding with the western edge of North America. Most continents started out as a single land mass on earth. Over millions of years, they have shifted to their current locations.

Why are the continents wider on the north?
