"The Unpardonable Sin"

It would seem that God is in the "forgiveness business. He can forgive anything... even blasphemy against Jesus Christ. Yet, He draws the line at vilification of the Holy Spirit. Why? How is that different... and unforgivable

In a prior discussion about the doctrine of the "trinity" I maintained that God is "dual," not three. Mainly because Jesus says: "I and My Father are One." (John 10:30)

Jesus isn't absent-minded, or an idiot, or a babbler. He says what He means and means what He says. And according to Him - God is "dual."

The study goes much deeper... and the "unpardonable sin" is part of that study. It has to do with what the Holy Spirit is... and why it is even a so much more sensitive subject than blasphemy against our precious Lord and Savior.

Jesus has always done the Father's will. Even in the beginning, Jesus, the WORD said and did whatever the Father commanded of Him. Jesus Christ is the Eternal Almighty Creator God of the Old Testament.

"All things were made by Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made." (John 1:3)

And when the Father wanted "light" on the darkened earth... Jesus spoke the words: "LET THERE BE LIGHT"... and by the POWER of the Father's Holy Spirit by which Jesus both spoke and worked - there was light.

The Holy Spirit is the Father's power that makes He and Jesus ONE!

Jesus also prayed for His disciples to His Father: "... Holy Father, keep... those whom Thou hast given Me, that THEY MAY BE ONE, AS WE ARE." (John 17:11)

What made the disciples ONE with each other and God? It was God's Holy Spirit.

God GIVES HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO THOSE WHO ARE HIS! "...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT." (Acts 2:38)

It is the Father's HOLY SPIRIT that makes us ONE WITH GOD. A tiny little part of Him LIVES WITHIN US, dwells within us if we are His. His TOKEN OF PLEDGE TO US. God calls it His "EARNEST!"

An "earnest" is a "valuable token temporarily given to seal a pledge until a business deal or purchase is completed at a later time."

"Now He which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; who hath also SEALED us, and given the EARNEST of the SPIRIT in our hearts." (II Cor.1:21-22)

"For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened... that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now He that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the EARNEST OF THE SPIRIT." (II Cor.2:4-5)

"...that we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE. Which is the EARNEST OF OUR INHERITANCE UNTIL THE REDEMPTION OF THE PURCHASED POSSESSION, unto the praise of His glory." (Eph.1:12-14)

The Holy Spirit of God is a priceless part of the Father which He gives to those whom He has called in Christ. It DWELLS IN THE PERSON. It seals the individual with the knowledge, promise and hope of salvation - until Jesus returns to the earth and fulfills the deal. GOD HAS PURCHASED US... but the deal isn't done, yet.

Salvation hasn't happened yet. It has only been pledged until Christ returns with our salvation... IMMORTALITY AND ETERNAL LIFE!

"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but WE SHALL ALL BE CHANGED, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the Trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." (I Cor.15:51-53)

"...so Christ was once offered (to purchase us) to bear the sins of many; and UNTO THEM THAT LOOK FOR HIM shall He appear THE SECOND TIME without sin UNTO SALVATION." (Heb.9:28)

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is having been given the Spirit by the Father... having it dwelling in us... then... our rejection of that priceless pledge. Our giving up on God.

"For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have TASTED OF THE HEAVENLY GIFT, and were PARTAKERS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, and have tasted the good Word of God, and the powers of the world to come, IF THEY FALL AWAY, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame." (Heb.6:4-6)

God is pro-creating Himself through man. He's making babies. He's "dual" now... but is becoming untold billions. And a person's aborting one's own life in Christ is the worst act imaginable. It's the willing rejection of the priceless pledge, His Holy Spirit, given by the Father.

It's abominable. It's blasphemous. It's unforgivable

Can You Commit The Unforgivable Sin?

A:The gospels say that only blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgiveable. Why this should be so is not stated, since blasphemy even against Jesus is said to be forgiveable. Nor does it say what constitutes blasphemy against the Holy Spirit or how it is possible to blaspheme against him. It sounds good to have an 'unpardonable sin' but it may actually be a sin that is not possible to commit.

Can one reject or blasphemy against the Holy Ghost then ask for forgiveness and want it back into their lives and be forgiven?

This is what Jesus told us about the unpardonable sin in the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 12:31-32, " Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come". I would say this is fairly clear. Be careful.
