I think a winter coat with a zipper does a better job in keeping the cold out since the zipper have no excess holes in the zipper area then the winter coats.

I just had the zipper replaced and was told the zipper was crap. It should have been a heavy duty zipper. I purchased the coat at the Bay. It was a Yoked Down Walker Quilt. Bill states manteau duvet-LF. The Bay would not return it as I had warn the coat.
