Depends on a few things. 1) Under what conditions you are experiencing the pain. Is it just when you drink hot things, just when drinking cold things, both, or does it matter? 2) is the pain a dull throb, or shooting pain? Dull throbs of pain often indicate compression of the tissue around the nerve, which would indicate it's likely you have an infection. You can take an NSAID medicine (like Aleve) for it, but since it's the nerve reacting, it's not going to help a lot. Feel around your lower jaw near your ears and down both sides of your neck on the side where the pain is. Do you feel any tenderness or swollen glands? This can indicate infection as well. Shooting pains usually indicate exposure of the nerve, or possibly something aggravating it. You could have an abcess near the nerve, or you could have some other issue. Either way, I'd recommend making a dental appointment. You don't want to mess around with dental problems. Septicemia, or infection of the blood, can result, which can be fatal.
