Thirty-five years after Roe v Wade many Catholics wonder why the country still does not protect the life of every unborn person The case against abortion seems compelling so why does it often fail?

Many people want abortions--if made illegal many women will die from illegal abortions. Before Roe vs. Wade, illegal abortions were the #1 cause of death amongst women of childbearing age (largely very young women such as teenagers).

Law enforcement and health workers worked together to ensure that women have access to safe and legal abortions; they were tired of cleaning up dead teenagers from back alleys, motel rooms and hospital emergency rooms (anyone opposing legal abortions really needs to understand the scope of these deaths).

The United States has the highest abortion rate of the industrialized nations. Studies have shown that if people receive comprehensive sex education, the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortions decreases.

Under the "pro-life"(!?) Bush administration, the numbers of abortions increased as less people received comprehensive sex education and access to Birth Control.

Society must provide alternatives to abortion--assistance to pregnant women, support for raising children--please come up with more and better ideas!

In the US church and state are separated! As it should be.

In his book Aborting America, former abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson recounts that he and other supporters of legalized abortion-on-demand intentionally and knowingly provided false information to the news media about the number of maternal deaths from abortion. The claim was made and spread that "thousands" of women and girls were dying annually; it reality, Nathanson said, the true number was around five hundred per year. Dr. Nathanson later converted, became a Catholic, and wrote his book, exposing the inner workings of the multi-billion dollar abortion industry.
Abortion, one of the Sins that Cries Out to Heaven for Vengeance, remains common in the United State because so many of our people lack respect for the sanctity of life, nor do they fear of God. God-fearing Americans of many denominations are beginning more and more to come together and speak with one voice on this very important issue.

Why does it continue to fail?
Most people did not understand the full ramifications of Row vs. Wade. No one expected what it has currently become. Opponents were not immediately prepared to present the logical arguments based on faith and natural law. In short, we were blindsided.
The tide is turning however, dissemination of information, better education, more philosophical thinking and improvements in peoples critical thinking skills are slowly having an effect. Improved technology that shows the new life in the womb also is changing minds.
Keep the faith! Minds are becoming enlightened! The Dominican Republic seeing the devastating affects of abortion has recently amended their constitution to protect life from conception to natural death!
