The number of protons gives the atomic number. The number of electrons are equal to the number protons unless the atom is ionized. The number of neutrons determines which isotope you have.

Hope that helps

What is an electron's atomic mass number?

The electron has no atomic mass number. The mass of an electron is roughly 1/1800 of the mass of a proton or neutron.

What is the formula for the atomic number?

atomic number = number of proton in an element number of proton = number of electron mass number = number of proton + number of neutron therefore... atomic number = mass number - number of neutrons

How do you calculate the number of proton neutron and electron using atomic no and mass no?

atomic # = protons atomic mass - atomic number = neutrons atomic # - charge = electrons

Which particle has no charge Electron Positron Neutron Proton?

Atoms have equal numbers of protons and electrons.

3 sub-atomic particles of an atom?

Proton, neutron and electron At a lower level up quark, down quark, and electron

What happen to atomic number and mass number of nucleus when it emits alpha particle electron and proton?

It's been awhile for me, but this is how I remember it. It is not convenient for me to look it up right at the moment, so you may want to verify this. Emitting an alpha particle (2 proton 2 neutron), atomic number would decrease by 2 and atomic mass decreases by 4.Electron emission means a neutron turns into a proton and electron, but the electron shoots out. The atomic number increases by 1 and atomic mass stays the same. Proton emission, well it loses a proton. So the atomic number decreases and mass decreases.

How do you determine the number of neutron?

Protons = Atomic Number Electrons = Atomic Number Neutrons = Atomic Mass - Atomic Number *A note on Atomic Mass* Atomic Mass is the sum of the number of protons and neutrons in an atom. Every time you remove or add a Proton/Electron or a Neutron, you change the mass by one. *A note on Protons and Electrons* The number of Protons and Electrons in an atom is always the same. Whenever you talk about adding/removing a proton or an electron, you are by default adding/removing one of the other as well.

The emission of a Beta particle has the effect of?

The emission of a Beta particle has the effect of decaying a neutron into a proton and an electron. This increases the atomic number and the electron is ejected energetically. The number of neutrons are decreased by one and the number of protons increase by one, changing the atom to a different element.

What is a proton neutron electron?

They are sub atomic particles. Neutrons does not contain charge.

How is the number of neutrons in an atom worked out?

they work because in every atom there is a neutron, electron and proton. the electron will tell you what the atomic number is and the neutrons and protons will tell you what element it is.

A beta particle is a what created and emitted from an unstable nucleus?

NovaNet: A beta particle is simply a high speed electron.
