You set up the timing on the Ford 1.8td engine by turning the crankshaft pulley clock wise until the alignment marks on the cam shaft and fuel pump line up. You will see a hole in the cam shaft and diesel pump pulleys. A 6mm drill bit will fit nicely into each of these holes when the timing is at TDC. You then remove the t6he blanking plug from under the diesel pump, and insert a 10mm bolt until it connects with the crank shaft big end. You can now remove the the 2 belts and tensioners and replace them, without the timing slipping.
