Hypothetical situation:
Phillips Inc. is a consulting company and has ten employees. These employees travel on consulting jobs in seven states. Phillips has an employment record of hiring only white males.
QUESTION; is this a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended?
Any input will be appreciated.
Because of the small workforce of Phillips Inc. it will be hard to prove violation of title VII. Federal Law stats an employer is "a person engaged in an industry affecting commerce who has fifteen or more employees for each working day in each of twenty or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding calendar year, and any agent of such a person."States involved in the FEHA have more stringent regulations for what an employer/employee is but that is a general idea. One thing to also look into is Bona Fide Occupational Qualification, or BFOQ. This is an exception to Title VII that if "A certain religion, sex, or national origin is reasonably necessary to the normal operations of the business enterprise."
Hope this helps!
Title VII prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin.
The most comprehensive civil rights legislation was passed by Congress and signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination for reason of color, race, religion, or national origin in places of public accommodation, and anything covered by interstate commerce. That included restaurants, hotels, motels, and theaters. The act also forbad discrimination in employment and discrimination on the bases of sex.
Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights ACt specifically prohibits unions from engaging in race or sex discrimination in membership, which was widespread before then.
No, Cleopatra did not have a last name as we think of names. Her name was Cleopatra Philopator. However the "Philopater" was a title not a name. It was the custom of the Egyptian rulers to select a title to accompany their given names and Cleo selected Philopater, which means "father loving".
In 1682 the Duke of York was James Stuart who held that title from birth in 1633 and officially from 1644 until his death in 1701 as James II & VII as an exile in France.

Yes, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act can override an employment contract if the terms in that contract conflict with the law. The contract cannot overrule because Title VII is codified law (is that the right term?) and therefore supersedes an employment contract.
After Cleopatra VII, the Egyptian priests declared Octavian/Augustus the Pharaoh, although Octavian never took the title or assumed the role.
Yes and no. Cleopatra VII was actually the queen of Egypt. The title "Queen of the Nile" was given to her by court flatterers and later historians.
Shakespeare wrote seven plays with "King Henry" in the title, and none of them are called King Henry VII.
He didn't do anything. He inherited the title from Henry VII.
