Hard to say what it is without knowing more. Blacking out can be caused by a few things such as low blood pressure, also, Diabetes can cause someone to black out if their blood sugars get off balanced. Even a heart condition could result in a black out.
If you were in class, that suggests you are young, so it probably isn't a heart condition. You may want to get checked out for Diabetes. A blood test can verify this.

A person who has passed out is unconscious as in on the floor; A person who is blacked out appears to be conscious, but has little or no recollection of what they are doing.
