I would check your Trans axle Control Module, If you have a bad Module, you won't get anything from your sensors. And just FYI, you are experiencing what is called LIMP MODE. That is the Vehicles way of letting you drive it to get repaired. However, you must use caution as if you try to drive it, you risk SERIOUS damage to your Transmission. You can get a transmission control module from a salvage/junk yard for around $50. If that doesn't fix the problem, go to some where like Autozone and pick up two new sensors for around $20 each.
Have the trans computer checked for trouble codes. That will give you a place to start diagnosing.

Just a thought have you checked the fuses?
Have you checked your transmission fluid level, lately????
This is a 4t40E transaxle and it has no dipstick. The way the fluid is checked is through the check plug like a manual trans is checked. With the engine running and the transaxle at the correct temp the oil should be at the bottom of the hole. The only way to check the transaxle temp is with a scan tool. So As you can tell you need to take this vehicle to a transmission shop to have the oil checked.
I just checked (11-19-13) Jasper engine and transmission and the engine lists for $3998.00 with out core charge.I just checked (11-19-13) Jasper engine and transmission and the engine lists for $3998.00 with out core charge.

The manual transaxle ( transmission ) on your Ford Escape does not have a fluid level dipstick like the automatic would normally have ( it is probably checked at the FILL PLUG on your transmission , underneath the vehicle )
