Definitely helped with me. I would suggest quitting smoking completely when you start the medication. The contrast in how I felt was like day and night for me. Also, I dont feel as much of a desire to drink either
Alcohol and marijuana are both depressants and can increase drowsiness, confusion and anxiety.

Marijuana
No, marijuana is not recommended for people who have depression or anxiety because the drug itself is a depressant.
No. Marijuana is pharmacologically distinct from the family of opium derivatives and synthetic narcotics. It is not addictive, however, some might feel a mild anxiety withdrawal but any personality or anxiety condition or change has to be present before marijuana is even used. Marijuana does not cause the anxiety, it might exacerbate it but any anxiety is caused by a diagnosed or undiagnosed previous anxiety disorder. It isn't a narcotic. It is a hallucinogen like mescaline and psilocybin. Narcotic are like morphine, codeine and oxycodone which kill pain.
I did quit smoking pot at the age of 18 mainly due to anxiety attacks. At the time I was a healthy weight. That was 10 years ago. Around 12 months after quitting, I gained 40kg and still have not been able to shake the weight even though I eat healthy and exercise. So, each person is different, but maybe your best bet is to see your doctor and discuss a weight management plan and have your thyroid function checked.
