Famously there was the Confederate soldier and author Sam Watkins whose first hand account of his service in the Army of Mississippi and Army of Tennessee gave him fame lasting to this day amungst Civil War historians and made him one of the most important me of the Civil War for those studying it today.Another Soldier of interest was Captain Martin Van Buren Bates, a Confederate Soldier from Kentucky. He achieved some mesaure of fame during the War itself for being the Confederate or Kentucky Giant. At a height reported to be somewhere between 7'11 and 7'9 and weighting arounf 470lbs he was a clear figure on the battlefield and in he midst of a battle he was ferocious. He was legendary in his own lifetime and Stories were told in Federal Camps of "a Confederate Giants who's as big as five men and fights like fifty".
