John Hale Finch, better known as Uncle Jack in "To Kill a Mockingbird," is a bit of a jokester. The children enjoy being around Uncle Jack, but he does not always listen to them and treat them with the fairness Scout feels they deserve. Jack is loyal, however, and Scout believes he treats children with respect. Jack is the brother of Atticus and Alexandra. He is a doctor, and unmarried. Jack is 10 years younger than Atticus.
Cecil Jacobs avoids Scout Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" because he is upset with Atticus Finch for taking on the defense of Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman. Cecil feels uncomfortable around Scout because of her father's controversial actions.

As a parent, one feels the obligation to care for his/her child, even as a bear would care for her cubs. A parent feels that this is her/his responsibility, along with the spouse's help. When someone else chastises the child, the parent feels that his/her responsibility has been taken from under him/her, and that someone else feels they can do a better job than he/she has done.

When Uncle Jack Finch says that Scout is growing out of her pants, he is hinting that she can only be a tomboy for so much longer. He goes on to ask her "You want to grow up to be a lady, don't you?"Know a days, people say "You're getting too big for your britches" Which is the same thing as " You're growing out of your pants". It means You're getting to cocky for your age or who you are.It could mean that the scout is talking bossily ouit of turn or acting as if she knoes everything, and this is why he might say something like that. It could also mean that the Scout is strong willed and cannot be coerced and Uncle JAck Finch feels insecure in the presence of strong willed young ladies/people.
