There are tubes and cracks in mountians and when the geometry of these tubes is such that the opening on the lower end is larger then the opening on the top, water can travel uphill. (herons fountian) These tubes are packed with rock dust and other sediment, which add surface area to the pipe cleaning the water, like a natural britta filter. We call them springs because the water is returning to its birth, and spring means rebirth..even metal springs return to their birth!! These are the underground opposites of tributaries that ensure water stays fresh by circulation..they are the pump and filter in your fish tank!
