Yes & No. There were 2 types of atomic bomb dropped on Japan. The Hiroshima bomb was a gun type weapon called "Little Boy". Testing of this weapon was considered unnecessary, and fissionable material was very scarce at any rate. The Nagasaki weapon, an implosion type weapon called "Fat Man", was so complex that testing was imperative. It was tested at Trinity site in July 1945,& the bombs were dropped on Japan a few weeks later. So, yes, one type of bomb was tested, one time, before they were used on Japan.
