The task-bar holds short-cuts to programs and files you use regularly. Normally, you would manually search the computer for these items. Having a short-cut on the task-bar enables you to access them with a single click, which saves you time.
Windows introduced the taskbar in 1995 (though Windows 7 removed quite a few classic taskbar icons), this feature has become a defining aspect of Microsoft Windows graphical user interface and many other operating systems. The taskbar is used to launch and monitor running applications.
