It is actually really simple. All you have to do is quit the game or play as another tribe for a while (I am not sure how long but maybe 10 minutes but I can't guarantee it) and it will come back. =)

If you choose to get level 2 exploration, you can find a cauldron in the firewood. If you drag an adult villager onto the cauldron he/she will pick it up and bring it to the fire. With this cauldron you can make stew for your villagers.

As far as I know, you don't "beat" the Virtual Villager games. The goal is to raise a thriving village, to survive, raise children, and train your villagers to be accomplished in many areas and eventually become esteemed elders.
