The same virus occurs in quite a few animals but the most important ones are all the members of the dog family, mustilids (weasels, mink, otters etc.), racoons, skunks, and some cats (though not domestic ones)
According to the IUCN there are approximately 32 native species in the Bahamas, none of which are cats. The two major types of mammals that exist there (excluding bats and amphibious creatures) are Racoons and Hutia. Baby racoons have been noted to being fed by mother cats. Here the atraction ends. When a coon is full grown it can and will kill a cat in it's territory. Don't mix racoons with cats. Coons were never meant to be pets. They are a wild animal and should be treated as such.
