ive seen this answered on another site, but i will do my best to basically tell you what to do-im going to attempt the same thing this week. I guess it was a dumb spot to put these wires, since the tailgate arms basically crush the wires on all these wagons. the solution i saw said you unhook the headliner, it comes un clipped and fish the wires out and splice them back together, recommend you disconnect the battery first. then electrical tape them all the way up and down ro protect them. i saw that the headliner wont fall, it will stay pretty tight, just have a set of wires coming out of the back. I guess you could also try to cut a small hole in the liner, near the edge and then slip the headliner back in place. Either way be careful you dont break the clips that secure the headliner..you also might find you need to replace bulbs in the tailgate licence light etc. .. New wiring harnesses for both hinges is available from IPD. They are just plug and play. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I went the replacement route myself. I purchased the two harnesses from IPD and did the job with the help of a friend. The headliner just unsnaps off and is not difficult to snap back on. The hard part is the instructions from IPD have you remove the rear gate. This is where you'll need a buddy to help. It is actually not too bad of a job; the worst part is feeding the wires through the gate. I also had to use some of the plastic connectors from the old wiring, but it is pretty much plug and play as stated above. New 240 Owner

Q: Volvo 240 wagon 1989 rear wiper doesn't work. The wires are broken inside of the rear hatch hinges. Does the headliner have to come out to replace those wires?
