Last year I did the same thing with our 24' round above ground pool. Mistakenly I bought 5-10 gallons of liquid shock. The pool attempted to clear and reverted back. Here's what I had to do. I purchased a plastic device called a leaf eater from pool place, about $20. You place it on the end of your extended pole. It has a net which connects to your hose and blows all the leaves and (in our case sticky balls from the tree above it) into it. I must haved removed about 30 net fulls from the pool. Then I used 5 gallons of Clorox bleach. The pool began clearing in 1-2 hours with the filter running. Obviously if your pool uses a non clorinated sanitizer like Baquicil you shouldn't use the bleach. Actually you could use regular liquid shock purchased from the pool supplier. I used bleach because it was cheaper and very strong. After the filter ran a couple days, I began taking the normal reading to balance the pool PH,chlorine etc... Hope it helps. Oh, the reason for removing the leaves first is they absorb any and all chemicals that you place into the pool with them.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

do not empty pool ,there is no need to ,it may collapse ,if it is above ground.

I bought a green and yellow robot at amerimerc.com for $289 (above ground ,for inground it is 800 to 1000 dollars) .I have used it for 6 yrs with no problem. The first year it payed for itself in electricity savings .Previous years I had to run my pool pump 12 hrs a day with algae buildup ,my electric bill was 450 twice a summer. Now with the robot used once or twice a week my bill is 250 for the 2 summer month bills. My electric bill is for two months ( 2 bills = 4 months)
