If you recirculate interior air constantly, the AC evaporator coil will build mould and end up producing a foul odor. Many manufacturers have started switching back to outside air after briefly allowing the AC to run on recirculate mode to pull the humidty out of the cabin and initially cool.
Check the starting directions, most gas heater pilots must have the button depressed for more than 30 seconds. If this does not work there is a problem with the regulator.
More than likely you will not have heat being the water wont be circulating through the heater core , When the hot water passes through the heater coil the air passing through the heater coil makes heat blow out the vents when you have selected a heat setting on your controls.

Give us more info like the year, make and more detail as to what the heater is not doing.

heater core is behind glove compartment dont need to remove all the dash just remove glove compartment . then there is a cover over heater core secured by a couple of small screws. remove cover then remove heater core,( couple more small screws
The heater core hoses are right at the firewall, connecting directly to the heater core in/out-lets.These could be nearly impossible to get at, unless(!), you take the 20 minutes (or less) to remove the cowl panels.This may seem daunting as it also includes removing the wiper motor, but trust me, you'll have all the room you could ever hope to have when working on the backside of the engine, including open access to the heater hoses.See "Related Questions" below for more
