Neither. Anubis is a God.

Anubis is the Guardian of the Underworld in the classical Egyptian religion (hey, if Christianity isnt myth then none of them none of them are myth).

He is depicted as jackal/wolf-headed. dogs/jackals/wolves were frequently seen near graves, especially shallow ones.

He weighs the human heart of the deceased against the weight of a feather. If the heart is lighter than the feather the deceased is considered pure of spirit and allowed into the Land of the Dead.

The Land of the Dead is just like the living world and all the dead go about their previous occupations.
