Artemis as the Olympian goddess (rather then a Titan as the two previous were) with a tie to Apollo, a widely regarded sun god - or god of light of the sun; she was then associated with the moon because such deities as sun and moon were often siblings, though Artemis and Apollo were the only twins of such nature. Mythology makes sense of this as it's in her bloodline, for her grandmother was Phoebe, the first Titan moon goddess.
Apollo is the god of the sun, music, truth, and prophecy and is the twin of Artemis, the goddess of the moon and the hunt.
I think that the American Moon missions were called either Appollo, in which case I think someone told you something wrong but if they were called Artemis then it is because the british moon missions were called Artemis. Which I think is better because Appollo is the Ancient Greeek God of harvest and the sun and Artemis is the ancient Greek God of the moon.
Apollo is refered to as the sun god, but sometimes it's a Titan named Helios that is called "the sun." Artemis (Apollo's twin sister) is the goddess of the moon, but sometimes a Titaness called Selene is refered to as "the moon." I don't know who is the ruler/god of the planets, but I hope this answered the majority of your question.
The Godess Artemis controls/manipulated animals ,and the moon. She became a huntress an aided birth of children
Artemis was presented and described many times as Goddess of the Moon and her brother Apollo as God of the Sun.
In Greek myth the Goddess not God who controlled the Moon was Artemis, she got the Moon due to his brother Apollo got the Sun.
There used to be a sun god, Helios, and a moon goddess, Selene. For some reason their duties were taken over by the twins, Apollo (sun) and Artemis (moon).

Largely because Apollo was very confused with Helios, the Titan god of the sun, where Apollo was only the god of the light (of the sun) originally. So of course Artemis was associated with Helios' sister, Selene, Titan goddess of the moon.
Apollo is the Greek sun god and his twin sister is Artemis, the goddess of the moon. Apollo is also the god of archery, music, healing (and bringing sickness), and poetry. Artemis is also the goddess of hunting and maidens (unmarried women).

Artemis.

Artemis was the Greek goddess of the moon.
Apollo is Artemis' twin brother. They both have the responsibility of driving a chariot across the sky-- for Apollo, the sun, and for Artemis, the moon. They are both archers, as well.
Artemis is the goddess of the Hunt and the moon. She is the older twin of Apollo, who is god of the sun. These two were known to be complete opposites. Also their father was Zeus and mother was Leto.
