While China was often under the control of colonial powers, it was never considered a colony. It is simply too large and complex to govern in that way.

No, not that is known. However, many Chinese people made their way to the west coast of the U.S. in the 1800s and beyond, and continue to emigrate to the all parts of the U.S. to this day.
