Yes, to an extent, he had his first movie role in 1929 for the movie Black and Tan. Mostly he had songs that were featured in the movies, and even to this day his music is used in movies. His songs are in Oceans 11 through 13, The Sopranos, The Notebook, and even a Star Trek episode. There are hundreds more movies that his music has been in.
