Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says that The line of ten generations from Adam to Noah begs to be compared to the seven generations from Cain to the sons of Lamech.
............................ Adam
Adam................. Seth
Cain .................. Enos
Enoch ................ Cainan (Cain)
Irad .................... Mahalaleel (Mehujael)
Mehujael ........... Jared (Irad)
Methusael ......... Enoch (Enoch)
............................ Metheluselah (Methusael)
............................ Lamech (Lamech)
With the aid of the third column (in parentheses), we can see that the names in the second column are substantially the same as in the first column, with just a minor change of sequence. They originated with the same early mythology, but at some stage a new tradition emerged, which was subsequently brought back to enhance and add to the original tradition. Thus Enoch (Enos) is now both Seth's son and Cain's son.
There are only two Enochs in The Bible. One was the son of Cain, and the other was the son of Jared. No son of Seth named Enoch is mentioned.
Accordingly to Genesis 5:18, Enoch was born to Jared at the age of 162; the seventh man in the genealogical line from Adam. However, he did come through the line of Seth. (Luke 3:37,38)
They both had a son named Enoch. We need to remember that there is
Cain's eldest son is recorded in Genesis 4:17 as Enoch (not the same Enoch that God later took from the earth).
The length of the life of Enoch the son of Cain is not recorded in the Bible.
Yes. Enoch was Noah's great grandfather. But there were more than one 'Enoch' in the Bible. There was Enoch who was Cain's son and Enoch who was Seth's (Cain's brother who was born after Cain killed his other brother Abel) great-great-great grandson. This Enoch was the one who 'walked with God' (Gen 5:24). Noah is related to both. He is the second Enoch's great grandson. (Gen 4:17, Gen 5)
Adam had sons and daughters, as recorded in Genesis 5:4. The entire genealogy of Adam is not recorded, or at least not preserved. What we do have are the details of only two of Adam and Eve's grandsons. Through Cain they had a grandson named Enoch (not the same Enoch who walked with God). Through Seth, their third son, they had a grandson names Enos.
Two lines with Enoch exists: Cain was the father of Enoch as Jared was of the line of Seth. Mothers are not commonly mentioned.
Enoch's mother was either Cain's sister or Cain's niece. Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain, Abel and Seth. All humnakind on earth at that time were descendants of Adam and Eve
Ion. Enosh is the son of Seth and would therefore be Cain's nephew.
Cain built a city and named it for his eldest son, Enoch.
Cain is the son of Adam and Eve in the Holy Bible. Cain and his wife had a son and his name was Enoch. The bible records years of lineage from Adam and Eve and that includes Cain.
No, the person named Enoch in Genesis 4 is a son via Cain's line. The Enoch in Genesis 5, from the line of Seth was 'translated' or moved to another place by; God:Genesis 5:24New International Version (NIV)24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
The name of the city that Cain built was named Enoch. "And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch." - Genesis 4:17
Seth had no grandmother. He was the 3rd son of Adam and Eve, born after Cain killed Abel.
