Genesis 2:21-23 says: "So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place...The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.'' (NASB)
Adam spoke of this when speaking of Eve, his closest possible relative : ''This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.''(Genesis 2:23 KJV)
Just as a side note: Nothing indicates that the reproductive cells of Adam were affected, or that his offspring would have one less rib, but it is interesting to note, medically speaking, that a rib that has been removed is capable of growing again, replacing itself, as long as the periosteum (the membrane of connective tissue that covers the bone) is allowed to remain. The scriptures don't say one way or the other, but it's something to think about.

∙ 8y agoIn the Book of Genesis, yes, Eve was made from Adam's rib. Many in medieval times believed that for this reason, women had one more rib than men, but the notion of scientific inquiry had not yet taken hold, so no-one seems to have checked!
Of course, the real answer is that Adam and Eve never actually existed and that creation was both much earlier and much different to what the ancients imagined it to be. If there was no Adam or Eve, then the question is unanswerable.
