There was Occupied France , occupied by German miitary and the Waffen-SS, as a flag of convenience, SS-men in France were called Feld-gendarmerie rather than Feld Poilzei (Mqans the same thing) the British coined the phrase (Vichy France) to describe the southern command of France, occupied by the Nazis in the town ot Vichy. They anted a neat little noun-clause like Nazi Germany. By the way the French did not employ the term Vichy France, but used Occupied France instead.l Occupied by the Germans that is. The De Gaullists and resitance talked of Free French and the miitanrt resistance movement , but properly on the ground there was no differfence bbertween Vichy France and the Real or other France,it was not like the USin the Civil war with Blue and Grey factions. as explained above the French did not use the phrase (Vichy France) and to them it sounded funny, like Brooklyn American, as Vichy is a Part of France- not the whole thing. it is an interesting topic they did use different flags and insignia than Pre-war France, naturally and used a double-headed axe instead of the more traditional French insignia.
