Yes.

He started in life with some prosperous family connections, but made his own way in life as a surveyor and soldier.

He saw combat in the French and Indian War and, of course, in the War for Independence. As an officer, his rations and shelter may have been at least marginally better than those of his troops, but still fairly crude.

He had a disappointed love for a married neighbor, which caused him great grief. Eventually he married a propertied widow with children, but had no children of his own.

As President, he recognised that he was under scrutiny and attack all the time, and yet had to behave with calm reserve and as befitting the creator of the role of President. He had a bad temper and worked hard to control it.

Old age brought the usual health problems which included the famous false teeth.

While he was much respected, which likely gratified him, but he was by nature a man who preferred his home to public duty.
