Is the Indian civilization the oldest civilization in the world?

The Indus Vally was a very early civilization but it was not the 1st, there were civilizations during pre-history many many thousands of years ago. The first civilizations that we have proof of are the ones who settled between the Tigris and Euphrates river; Mesopotamia (in modern day Iraq). The 1st civilization in the Indus Valley in the Harrapan society but not much is known because all there records are under the water table so we know little about them. :)Hope i helped!

What Food Did the Indus river Provide?

I think that the Indus river provides a plant which is used to make paper. Also the water from the river provides rich soil for farming. So the people that lived around there were farmers. The river also provides transportation for the people that live around there. This is good for trading around the world. The water there also provided baths. As for the food i really don't know. Imagine the soil. What types of plants (the ones you can eat like grapes carrots, etc.) grow there. Since the river provides rich farming you can see what types of food grow from the soil. Remember that a back then, they did not have all these fancy gardening tools such as gloves, etc. Some places that are similar to this is Mesopotamia and Egypt. Egypt has the Nile that also provides them with gifts from the Nile river. And Mesopotamia has two rivers that are the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. These places are called river valley civilizations. Because the rivers help them survive. The indus vally sivilization is also sometimes called Indus Ghaggar-Hakra civilization or Indus-Sarasvati civilization. Sarascati is a name of another river. Sarasvati is also a name of an Indian god. Along with Durga, Laxmi, and one more that i forgot the name of.

How do you know the Indus Valley traded with the Sumerians?

Objects have been found that were traded between the two and in each other's area. If I make a pot in India and trade or sell it to you in Italy that pot would be found in Italy but it would be clear that it wasn't made there. Not only are items traded between cultures but inventions and technology. If someone invents an item in country A and one like it is found in country B historians know that the two cultures traded or were in communication.

What kind of people live in Indus Valley Civilization?

In recent years archaeological excavations ( Mohanjo-Daro_Larkana,sind and Haraapa) have proved that some 4000 or 5000 years ago a highly civilized civilization was flourished in Indus Vally ,at the same time which had witnessed the growth of civilizations of Egypt, Assyria and Babylonia .By excavations carried out in Mohanjo-Daro it is evident that people of Indus Vally it is evident that it was an well developed civilization. To understand that what kind of people live in Indus vally we have to undergo a detailed analysis of the city found buried underneath as there are no written records of that time or the records which are found are yet to be decoded.. To begin with we can start with what we got in plenty in excavation:- 1.>TOWNS AND THEIR PLANNING: Well walled cities divided into 2 parts one on avg. ground and other on some height ,lower part includes residential area and higher areas includes important and admin. buildings .The cities are so well planed that even today it is admirable, it's drainage system and roads are the classical examples of those times town planning .Most of the buildings are made up of burnt bricks ,mud bricks and stone .Most of the houses includes wells. 2.>LANGUAGE: It is until clear that what language was used in Indus civilization, according to Sir Jhon Marshell it was DRAVINIAN but today there are very few takers of this theory. According to some schollers Brahvi(BRAHMI) was the language of Indus Vally people. From manuscripts found it seems that they uses pictographic language which contains around 400 odd symbols. 3.>Religion: Statues of 'shiva ' and teracotta sculptures though suggest about religional connectivity of Indus Vally's religion with Hindus but absence of any temple of religious building ceases the possibility of the same. It seems that they worship the living Gods (people personified as god or the representatives of the god) but it is evident that they were nature loving people and they have worshiped nature in many ways . 4.>Weaponry: Iron was not known to them ,and they were seems to be the peace loving people ,their weapons were blunt as if they were just for self protection .Though they knew about bow and arrow and they were good at using them . 5.>Knowledge: They have a very good knowledge of measuring units and they also know about astrological events. 6.>Social Life: Social structure of Indus people was well divided in three parts first were who deals with the admin. second were the merchants whose work is to trade third were the labours and peasants.Women enjoys equal place in the socity. Ornaments were both liked by men and women. Their trade was with almost every civilization of that time. 7.>Origin: The most important but unanswered question is what was ttheir origin ,from where they came ?There are two most suggested views about this ,first is from John Marshell who says that they were Dravinians and second says they were Arayans or may be the Sumerrians, but at this we cant make any conclusions because exact origion of Arayans is also not known. CONCLUSION:- to sum up in short we can say that the people who lived in Indus Vally were highly civilized people whose social life was very advanced and well managed, they had earned their livelihood mainly from trade and agriculture and till further research we can not say that what were they and from where they had came and what happens to them whether they were wiped out by natural causes or by invasions by some warrior race.
