The only reason that Itachi did not kill Sasuke is that the Mangekyo Sharingan is so powerful, it starts to cause blindness to the owner. So by letting Sasuke obtain Mangekyo Sharingan, Itachi is getting what he wants. The only way to reverse the blindness is to take one of your sibling eyes(what Madara Uchiha did to his brothers). Later in the series, Sasuke goes to the Uchiha shrine and reads that in a inscription on the wall. So Itachi killed the whole clan for a couple reasons: 1.
