James Earl Ray was not a member of the KKK. But the FBI thinks that the KKK gave him $100,000 for killing Martin Luther King Jr. He was convicted for assassinating Martin Luther King, Jr. but always denied it. The King family unsuccessfully tried to get his case reconsidered as they believed that he was innocent. He died in prison.

his conviction was a guilty plea he took and he was sentenced to 99 years. he after tried to take his plea back and get tried by a jury but his appeal was denied
