No, he was crucified. Crucifixion involves being tied or nailed, via the hands and feet, to a cross. Impalement involves having a long, sharpened pole stuck through your body and then set upright in the ground. Sometimes the pole would have a small cross piece on it to make it impossible for the body to slide down to the ground and the victim would hang in the air until he died. They were both very gruesome forms of execution.
Of course, the normal Roman method of Crucifixion also partly involved impalement as the person being so executed was nailed with large spikes through both the wrists and the feet. This is why Jesus showed His disciples the scars in both His nails and His feet to show that it was Him in His actual body risen from the dead and not a Spirit.
