It is to teach the world that if you trust in G-d and not curse G-d that you will over come any situation in life. It is also demonstrating that G-d is always with you even if you do not think so. G-d controls every thing. Satan has no power and no free will. G-d puts in situation in order learn and grow from suffering. It is also to bring us closer to G-d.
