No, he was not.
In fact, if there would have been another person in his place on the throne at that time, there still would have been a revolution. Revolutionary feelings weren't new, the bourgeoisie had already had them back in the time of Louis XIV who had build Versailles, which drained the treasury, and Louis XIV made the bourgeoisie (not the nobility and not the clergy) pay taxes to fill the huge gap. By the time it was Louis XVI's turn on the throne, France was bankrupt and taxes were sky high.
Napoleon was an emperor and was a stronger (which does not immediately mean better) ruler then Louis XVI overall, although he made poor choices. Louis was very indecisive and did not have a clue on how to do a thing corresponding on how to rule a country. Napoleon on the other hand knew what he needed to do to succeed in most situations but made some bad decisions Louis ran from his duty whereas Napoleon fought for his right to lead France to greatness.
He betrayed his country.
He spent a staggering amount of French treasure supporting the American Revolution which added to the huge National debt that brought on the eonomic crisis in France. (Most Americans forgive him for his bad judgement.)
Like Charles Dickens wrote about the French Revolution in his A Tale of Two Cities: "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.." After the rule of King Louis XV, France was left in bad condition - bad economy, food shortages, famines -- he was one of the most hated Royals in European history. Things got worse when the throne was left to his son, King Louis XVI and his Queen Marie Antoinette. Louis XVI passed reforms but they failed and things got worse. After this, the King basically "checked out" from the day-to-day rule. Besides that, King Louis XVI was an indecisive leader and weak. The king and Marie Antoinette were teenagers and Marie was a partygirl. France was starving while Marie was throwing lavish parties and living in frivolity. This is where we get the infamous quote (although often misquoted to Marie Antoinette who didn't say it) "the peasants have no bread. Let them eat cake. Qu'ils mangent de la brioche." And in the Age of the Enlightenment, the people had enough. And it wasn't just the king of France, it was the whole House of Bourbon. Everybody was dying to the guillotine.
Because he was a traitor as he tried to escape many times.
The King can in some respects may be seen as a bad king but it depends on what view you look at. The king was trying to protect the ideals of Divine Right (the rulership of a monarchy) so his son could become king and so went against decrees like the August Decrees to save his family, however he lacked confidence in himself and barely talked to his wife Marie Antoinette. The King also made some stupid decisions like the Brunswick Manifesto which led to the emergence of Robespierre and his unavoidable execution. Perhaps not heroic, but his executioner remarked that he faced the guillotine like a man.
Marie Antionette and King Louis were not respected and loved by the people of France at the time, firstly due to the fact that while France was starving and growing in debt they were refurbishing their palaces. secondly they were not popular people as Marie Antionette was Austrian and therefore was not respected nor welcomed by the people of france even though she was a caring and loving queen, the french public used propoganda in order to give her a bad reputation. They were not popular and were seen almost as if they were an evil force driving France into ruins and thus were not respectd nor loved by the fellow people of france at the time
so bad!
Shortly before the French Revolution began, sometime in the late 1770s, the French economy was in very bad shape. France had been influenced greatly by the revolution in America. France had given millions to support the colonies in America. Also, the fact that King Louis XIV had ordered the built of Versailles in 1682 drained the treasury immensely. The succeeding King Louis XV and King Louis XVI tried to fix the huge debts by making the commoners (the bourgeoisie) pay very high taxes. By 1789 France had no money left and France was officially declared bankrupt.
For the same reason most citizens rebel against an autocratic ruler. However, in France, things were considerably dreadful. It all began in Paris, France when King Louis XVI inherited bad things from his father and Grandfather which brought France into debt/ bankrupted. . The 6 things I am trying to answer Is who, what, when, where, why, and how. Well when it began in 1789 it was chaos King Louis was being selfish and everyone was fighting against the throne. Most of it resulted in High taxes. Political "clubs" in French politics were on the rise. Slaves created their own paper of Honor also known as the Code Noir or Slave Code. The French County men were frustrated with The system of high taxation and less food. They got less food because the King was using all the money For food and selfish things.
because he make people pay taxes and he took all the money
