I believe that was Lyndon B. Johnson. America's involvement in Vietnam was limited until he became president. According to Wikipedia, "It was Johnson who began America's direct involvement in the ground war in Vietnam." See the Related Links below for more information.
While it was President Nixon who was president when the Vietnam war ended, it's effect on Lyndon Johnson was a great financial gain. The presidency of Lyndon Johnson was little effected, simply because the truth was never exposed on any conspiratorial involvement on his part that he may have been involved in.
Not sure if this counts, since it was on the ground at the time, but Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in on the President's aircraft.Technically, it was not Air Force One until he was sworn in as AF1 is not the name of the aircraft, but the call sign of any airplane carrying the President of the United States.
As of 2013, President Lyndon B. Johnson has not been featured on any U.S. coin or currency. However, his image is due to appear on a presidential $1 coin to be released in 2015.
Yes, he struggled that he was not able to end the Vietnam war earlier.
yes
Lyndon Johnson was sworn in office on Air Force One, but I do not know of any presidents sworn in out of the U.S.
yes 12
Not any more than any other US president may have (at that time); LBJ had congressional approval via the Tonkin Gulf Resolution.
Lyndon Johnson granted 1187 pardons and commutations during his presidency. None were of any particular note, other than a Congressman who had been convicted of Bribery, and a President of the Carpenter's Union, convicted for Contempt Of Congress.
President Lyndon Johnson used the Gulf of Tonkin incidents to get the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution passed. This permitted him to militarily assist any southeast Asian country that claimed to be victimized by communist aggression. He used this as justification to â??put boots on the groundâ?? (deploy troops) and begin open warfare with North Vietnam.
